Soccer Game Preview: Powell vs. Heritage

The Powell Panthers will head out to challenge the Heritage Mountaineers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Powell has given up an average of 3.7 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Powell's offense. They lost 5-0 to Grace Christian Academy on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Powell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee soccer rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Grace Christian Academy are ranked 25th).

Meanwhile, Heritage didn't have quite enough to beat Karns on Tuesday and fell 3-2. Heritage have struggled against Karns recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Joshua Tidwell wasn't going to let Karns walk away unscathed as he scored both of Heritage's goals, bringing his season total up to seven goals.

Powell has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-4-2 record this season. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Everything went Powell's way against Heritage when the teams last played back in April of 2015, as Powell made off with a 3-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
