Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Verdugo Hills

Verdugo Hills had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Kennedy Golden Cougars. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 15-8 win on Monday.

Raymond Gonzalez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Anthony Velasquez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Verdugo Hills' success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 7-17 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Moises Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Verdugo Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Verdugo Hills' record now sits at 10-17. As for Kennedy, their loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-17.

Coming up, Verdugo Hills will face off against Taft at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
