Softball Game Preview: Heritage Patriots vs. Fort Wayne Snider Panthers

Heritage is 7-1 against Fort Wayne Snider since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Patriots will face off against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Heritage has seven straight wins, Fort Wayne Snider has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Heritage barely beat Wayne Trace the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Patriots blew past the Raiders 6-0 on Monday. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Danica Fuller, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Wayne Trace off the board. With that strong performance, Fuller is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Abriyah James was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Calleigh Hirschy also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Snider had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of Churubusco by a score of 8-7 on Monday.

Ameera Kummer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle O'Neill, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Heritage pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Snider, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Heritage took their victory against Fort Wayne Snider in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
