Softball Preview: Petal Panthers vs. Meridian Wildcats

Petal is 10-0 against Meridian since April of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Petal Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Meridian Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Petal gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Mize as Petal made off with a 15-5 win. The victory was just what Petal needed coming off of a 6-0 loss in their prior game.

Kynlee Hall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Hall was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Taylor, who fired off two home runs, three RBI, and a stolen base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Layla Brock, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Meridian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Perry Central on Thursday. Meridian blew past Perry Central 13-1.

Like Petal, Meridian also got a great game from a two-way player: Jazlynn Sulton. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (she also didn't allow any walks). Sulton was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

In other pitching news, Sherriah Grace looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances.

Back at the plate, Kenbria Jones was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Caitlyn Williams was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Petal has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Meridian, their record now sits at 11-9.
