Preview: Simi Valley Pioneers vs. Central Valley Christian Cavaliers
Two dominant backs in Brice Hawkins and Bryson Donelson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Simi Valley Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Simi Valley sitting on four straight victories and Central Valley Christian on ten.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Simi Valley walked away with it. They managed a 44-38 victory over the Mustangs on Saturday. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Simi Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hawkins, who rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns. Dominic Demaio also helped out with an impressive 149 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Simi Valley's defensive line and their three sacks. Leading the way was Izak Simpson and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Central Valley Christian has more to be thankful for after their matchup against Lemoore on Friday. Central Valley Christian won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Lemoore 27-26. That's two games straight that Central Valley Christian has won by exactly a single point.
It was another big night for Donelson, who rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 74 receiving yards. Donelson has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Brent Kroeze was another key contributor, throwing for 207 yards and three touchdowns.
Simi Valley's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Central Valley Christian, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's game: Simi Valley has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Central Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've been even better at 224.9 per game.
