Basketball Recap: Churchill County Takes Down Fernley in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Churchill County had no trouble coming through when it counted. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the Fernley Vaqueros 63-31. The Greenwave have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 22 points or more this season.

Churchill County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Karlie J. Simper, who went 7-for-17 en route to 19 points along with six boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Simper a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kortnie B. Simper, who posted 14 points.

Despite the loss, Fernley still got an impressive performance from Taylor Tollestrup, who went 7-for-17 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The match was Tollestrup's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Lyle, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

The win (which was Churchill County's 12th in a row) raised their record to 23-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points over those games. As for Fernley, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-7.

Churchill County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-43 loss against Mater Academy East Las Vegas on the 20th. As for Fernley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-52 defeat against Virgin Valley on the 20th.
