Football Recap: Escalon Starts off Right with Win over Rodriguez

Escalon gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Rodriguez Mustangs.

Escalon found their leader in sophomore Dylan Ball, who rushed for 106 yards and three scores on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Yates-Perreira, who gained 113 total yards and a touchdown.

Escalon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 320 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rodriguez only rushed for 100 rushing yards.

One reason for the win was Escalon's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Lorenzo Texeria, Cole Ratkiewiez, and Rylan Koops, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Escalon and Rodriguez should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Cougars (ranked 178th) will meet Chavez (ranked 629th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Rodriguez will take on Benicia at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (197 vs. 571).
