Basketball Recap: Flagler Palm Coast Comes Up Short

Flagler Palm Coast fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Menendez on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to the Menendez Falcons. The Bulldogs lost against the Falcons in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-24 score last time.

Flagler Palm Coast's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexandra Perez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ava Works, who posted 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Menendez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophia Scibelli, who had 14 points in addition to six boards and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucia Warner, who put up five points along with six assists and four blocks.

Flagler Palm Coast has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-3 record this season. As for Menendez, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.

Flagler Palm Coast didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-26 victory against Palatka on the 28th. As for Menendez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 39-34 loss against Mainland on the 28th.
