Basketball Recap: Nick Mascitti's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Williamstown over Richford

If Williamstown was riding high fresh off their 81-28 takedown of Northfield last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Williamstown Blue Devils took a 65-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Richford Falcons. The match was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but the Blue Devils couldn't quite close it out.

Williamstown's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Mascitti, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Mascitti is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Bailey, who posted 15 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Even though they lost, Williamstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Williamstown's record now sits at 12-6. As for Richford, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williamstown will head out to challenge Oxbow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Williamstown knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Oxbow likes a good challenge. As for Richford, they will challenge Winooski at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Winooski will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Richford surely won't give up without a fight.
