Basketball Game Preview: Cheraw Wolverines vs. Springfield Longhorns

The Cheraw Wolverines just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Springfield Longhorns at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Cheraw is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against McClave on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Cheraw was dealt a 54-27 defeat at the hands of McClave. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Cardinals are ranked 67th).

Meanwhile, Springfield had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 63-48.

Springfield's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points over those games. As for Cheraw, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Cheraw came up short against Springfield when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 64-60. Can Cheraw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
