Basketball Recap: Clearwater Fightin' Tigers vs. St. Paul Lutheran Giants
There's no place like home for the Clearwater Fightin' Tigers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They strolled past St. Paul Lutheran with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 67-53. For Clearwater, this counts as revenge for the 71-34 defeat the Giants walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, St. Paul Lutheran still got an impressive performance from Mia Sherrill, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 54.7% of St. Paul Lutheran's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Josie Berkery was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Even though they lost, St. Paul Lutheran were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Clearwater's win bumped their record up to 3-14. As for St. Paul Lutheran, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clearwater will take on the Redbirds at TBD on Saturday. East Carter will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for St. Paul Lutheran, they will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Bunker presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Giants in Missouri (the Eagles are ranked 176th, while the Giants are ranked 449th).
