Baseball Recap: Stoneham Takes a Loss

Stoneham extended their losing streak to three on Sunday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Reading Memorial Rockets. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Reading Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Reading Memorial's part, Ethan LeBovidge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. LeBovidge has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Chapin, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Stoneham wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 7-1 victory against Medford on the 12th. As for Reading Memorial, they will head out on the road to face off against Arlington at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
