Preview: Gateway Olympians vs. Palmer Terrors
Gateway is 0-1 against Palmer since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gateway Olympians will head out on the road to face off against the Palmer Terrors at 6:00 p.m. Gateway will be strutting in after a victory while Palmer will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Gateway got themselves on the board against Hinkley, but Hinkley never followed suit. They breezed by the Thunderbirds on the road to the tune of 69-0.
Knyle Serrell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 122 yards and four touchdowns on only seven carries, while also throwing for 169 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Serrell was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Oriel Bailey got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 65 points the game before, Palmer were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. Their rough 27-7 defeat to Widefield might stick with them for a while. The matchup was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but Palmer couldn't answer the 20 points Widefield scored afterwards.
Palmer's defeat came about despite a quality game from Dyson Sharpton, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Gateway's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6. As for Palmer, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6.
Gateway took a serious blow against Palmer in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 54-18. Can Gateway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
