Basketball Game Preview: Madrid Tigers vs. Des Moines Christian Lions

Madrid hasn't had much luck against Des Moines Christian recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Madrid Tigers challenge the Des Moines Christian Lions at 6:15 p.m.

Last Friday, Madrid took a blow against Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, falling 57-5. The match marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Des Moines Christian entered their tilt with Winterset on Monday with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. They strolled past the Huskies with points to spare, taking the game 48-34. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Huskies are ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Des Moines Christian's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24 points. As for Madrid, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Madrid suffered a grim 57-37 defeat to Des Moines Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Madrid avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
