Softball Recap: Modesto Has No Trouble Against Downey

Modesto's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Downey Knights 8-1. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 10-4 victory back in March.

Alyssa Ramirez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Luton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Lissett Aguilar also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Modesto's record is now 5-12. As for Downey, they dropped their record down to 1-18 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Modesto is set to take on their familiar foe Pitman at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Downey will face off against rival Turlock at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
