Recap: Pieper Warriors vs. Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Pieper Warriors had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 38-6 victory over Mission Veterans Memorial. With Pieper ahead 28-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Pieper was led to victory by Jake South and Jake Stratchan. South threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt, while Stratchan picked up 192 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Stratchan's longest reception was for an incredible 90 yards. Jordan Grant got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Pieper's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Mission Veterans Memorial's QB won't forget Kaden Glass anytime soon given Glass sacked him twice.
When it comes to explaining why Mission Veterans Memorial lost, one person who can't be blamed is Braden Luedeker. Despite the final result, he rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 263 yards on 29 of 58 attempts. Luedeker is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
The victory was the tenth in a row for Pieper, bringing their record for this year to 11-1. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.5 points. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Pieper will face off against Alamo Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alamo Heights knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matches -- so hopefully Pieper likes a good challenge. Mission Veterans Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
