Basketball Recap: Superior Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Superior faced off against Fillmore Central on Saturday. The Superior Wildcats took a blow against the Fillmore Central Panthers, falling 80-38. The Wildcats have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Superior's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaren Gilbert, who posted eight points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Gilbert a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Mason Korb, who put up six points.

Kiffin Theobald continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fillmore Central, going 6 of 9 on his way to 22 points along with eight boards and four steals. Theobald is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Stoner, who went 6 for 9 en route to 17 points.

Superior's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Fillmore Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Heartland the next time they take the court. Superior will host Heartland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Fillmore Central will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
