Basketball Recap: Evie De Wit Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Pahrump Valley

The Meadows School hadn't done well against Pahrump Valley recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Meadows School Mustangs were the clear victor by a 57-33 margin over the Pahrump Valley Trojans. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 24 points or more this season.

The Meadows School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evie De Wit, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 12 points in addition to six assists and four steals. That's the most steals De Wit has posted since back in December of 2023. Ej Nwapa was another key player, going 7 for 15 en route to 16 points along with five assists and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Pahrump Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Riley Saldana dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards. Saldana is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Cindal Monahan also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

The Meadows School has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Pahrump Valley, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

The Meadows School has already played their next match (against Boulder City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pahrump Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sports Leadership & Management at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sports Leadership & Management has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
