Basketball Recap: Goodrich Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lake Fenton last Friday, Goodrich came back down to earth. The Goodrich Martians took a 45-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Frankenmuth Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Martians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Eagles are ranked 13th).

Frankenmuth's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clare Conzelmann, who went 6-for-11 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Conzelmann a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Brenner, who posted ten points and three steals.

Goodrich's defeat dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Frankenmuth, their record now sits at an identical 15-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Goodrich will take on Clio at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Goodrich's defense has only allowed 27.4 points per game this season, so Clio's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Frankenmuth, they will square off against Alma at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Frankenmuth is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season.
