Basketball Recap: Cesar E. Chavez Takes a Loss

Cesar E. Chavez lost against Westside back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos were dealt a 66-7 loss at the hands of the Westside Wolves. The game marked the Lobos' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Leading Westside to victory were Jakaila Matlock and Garlynn Grant. Matlock dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Grant went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. The dominant performance gave Matlock a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Krysten Carter, who posted three points and five steals.

Cesar E. Chavez's defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Westside, their victory bumped their record up to 11-13.

Cesar E. Chavez will venture away from home to square off against Wisdom at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Cesar E. Chavez is facing Wisdom at the right time seeing as Wisdom is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Westside, they and Heights will meet in a canine-themed contest at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
