Softball Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Bernalillo Spartans

The Valley Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Bernalillo Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valley will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Valley can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. Everything went their way against Del Norte as Valley made off with a 12-1 victory. The win was just what Valley needed coming off of a 13-6 defeat in their prior match.

Alexus Zubia-Olivas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Zubia-Olivas was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Viviana Montoya was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Myriah Cordova, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple, and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Bernalillo was able to grind out a solid victory over Albuquerque Academy on Thursday, taking the game 9-4.

Valley's record now sits at 12-7. As for Bernalillo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Everything went Valley's way against Bernalillo in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as Valley made off with a 13-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
