Basketball Recap: Ridgemont Comes Up Short

Ridgemont played a tough contest on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Cardington-Lincoln Pirates, falling 72-37. The loss continues a trend for the Golden Gophers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.

Ridgemont lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Laney Elsasser, who went 6 of 14 en route to 12 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Elsasser a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kylie Shreve, who posted 13 points.

Abigail Hardwick was her usual excellent self, going 7 of 8 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven boards and five steals for Cardington-Lincoln. Hardwick has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jill Bertke, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Ridgemont's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Cardington-Lincoln, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Ridgemont wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-20 win against Calvary Christian on the 4th. As for Cardington-Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 48-36 victory against Mt. Gilead on the 3rd.
