Football Recap: Winnfield Comes Up Short

Winnfield extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-7. They came up short against the Red River Bulldogs, falling 58-36. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-21.

As for Red River, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-5. Considering they have won four contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Malique Smith produced another solid effort throwing for 272 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.1% of his passes, and also rushing for 74 yards and one score on only eight carries. His passing game has become a key predictor of Red River's success: the team is 4-2 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cedric Moody, who rushed for 150 yards and one TD.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winnfield will welcome Lakeside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.44 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Red River, they will challenge Oakdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
