Baseball Recap: Bergen Catholic Takes a Loss

Bergen Catholic had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 15-6 to make it four. They lost 14-4 to the St. Joseph Regional Green Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Crusaders have suffered since April 9th.

As for St. Joseph Regional, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

For St. Joseph Regional's part, Brendan Lewis looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Lewis has posted since back in April.

At the plate, St. Joseph Regional got a massive performance out of Brady Shust, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave Shust a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Gomez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

While Bergen Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
