Baseball Recap: Greenwood Mennonite Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

After losing to Tome the last time they met, Greenwood Mennonite decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Flames walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Titans on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flames.

Trenton Tempel (HS) made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Tempel (HS) was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. Greenwood Mennonite is 4-1 when Tempel (HS) posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, James Adams and John Kent did most of the damage at the plate: Adams went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Kent went 1-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Kent's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Zdobysz (HS), who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.

Greenwood Mennonite pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Tome, they moved to 6-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenwood Mennonite will host Holly Grove Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tome, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pennsville Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on May 20.
