Basketball Recap: Clayton Comes Up Short

Clayton's tournament run continued when they took on Sidwell Friends on Saturday. The Clayton Comets were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Sidwell Friends Quakers. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 43rd in North Carolina, while the Quakers are ranked first in District of Columbia).

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Khaleil Walters, who went 5 of 6 en route to 14 points along with five boards and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Grimes, who posted 14 points.

Sidwell Friends got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eric Green out in front who went 5 of 6 on his way to 13 points. Jalyn Collingwood was another key player, putting up nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Clayton and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Sidwell Friends, their record now sits at 6-3.

Clayton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 65-62 win against Millbrook on the 30th. As for Sidwell Friends, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 50-38 victory against Green Level on the 30th.
