Softball Recap: West Stanly Beats Piedmont for Their Sixth Straight Win

West Stanly had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Piedmont Panthers. That's more bragging rights for the Colts, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Madi Whitley spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Austin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Saylor Edwards, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.

West Stanly's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Piedmont, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-4.

Coming up, West Stanly will challenge Central Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Piedmont, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Piedmont Panthers duke it out with Anson Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
