Softball Recap: American Fork Cavemen vs. Pleasant Grove Vikings

American Fork extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 8-17 in the process. They came up short against the Pleasant Grove Vikings, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-3 back in April.

As for Pleasant Grove, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Pleasant Grove, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Pleasant Grove's part, Keslie Draney made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Draney has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Maile Larsen was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Grace Norman, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

Looking ahead, American Fork will host Lehi at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Cavemen surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pleasant Grove, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lone Peak at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
