Football Recap: Nokomis Comes Up Short

Nokomis entered their matchup against Cumberland on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Redskins and the Pirates were almost perfectly matched up, but the Redskins suffered a 15-14 loss. The Redskins lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 42-0 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Nokomis had strong showings from Nolan Herpstreith, who rushed for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Kadynn Petty, who rushed for 73 yards on only eight carries.

Nokomis suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 5-3. As for Cumberland, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Nokomis will square off against rival Arcola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Cumberland is set to challenge their familiar foe Cerro Gordo/Bement at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Pirates 11.7, the Broncos 1) so any points scored will be well earned.
