Softball Game Preview: Hermon Hawks vs. Ellsworth Eagles

The Hermon Hawks will face off against the Ellsworth Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Tuesday, Hermon came up short against Old Town and fell 8-5.

Mikelle Verrill was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Verrill was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Braelyn Wilcox was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Sophie Peterson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Ellsworth lost 10-4 to Brewer on Tuesday.

Hermon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Ellsworth, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2.

Hermon came up short against Ellsworth in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
