Sagamore Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Rolando Castillo Has Career Rushing Day

Starting off the list is Frankfort's Rolando Castillo, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. On Friday Castillo made eight total tackles and defended three passes, good enough to also set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. He didn't just play on offense: he also made eight total tackles and defended three passes.

If history really does repeat itself, Castillo might just drop another big game when he faces off against North Montgomery on Friday. When Castillo last faced the Chargin' Chargers back in October of 2023, he made 14 total tackles and defended a pass.

Walden Posts Huge Game in 70-0 Victory

Tri-West Hendricks's three-game losing streak is now nothing but a memory thanks in part to Malachi Walden. Walden was dynamite on Friday, throwing for 95 yards and three touchdowns on perfect 7-for-7 passing, while also rushing for 53 yards on only six carries. He is becoming a predictor of Tri-West Hendricks' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

North Montgomery's probably not too fond of Walden given he always seems to get the better of them. When Walden last faced the Chargin' Chargers back in October of 2023, he rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes.

Marcus Fortner Turns in Season-Best Performance

On Friday, Western Boone got the W thanks in part to Marcus Fortner playing the best football he has all season. Fortner picked up 85 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Fortner and Western Boone will look to defend their home field on Friday against Danville at 7:00 p.m. The contest will pit Fortner up against the Warriors' star receiver Jace Scrafton. With so much talent on the field, fans are surely in for an exciting game. The only thing left to see is who brings home the W.

A Season-Best Effort from Derek Reid Leads Tri-West Hendricks over North Montgomery

Derek Reid produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Tri-West Hendricks to the win on Friday. Reid rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. He has become a key player for Tri-West Hendricks: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.

Reid will try to repeat (or improve) on that dominant performance when he faces off against Crawfordsville on Friday. The contest will pit Reid up against the Athenians' star rusher Maddox Ronco. With so much talent on the field, fans are surely in for an exciting game. The only thing left to see is who brings home the W.
