Baseball Game Preview: Pierson Whalers vs. Port Jefferson Royals

The Pierson Whalers will head out to take on the Port Jefferson Royals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pierson will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Pierson proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by six) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out John Glenn 8-6.

Spencer Cavaniola made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andy Wayne, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Max Krotman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Port Jefferson unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Southampton.

Port Jefferson now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Pierson, their record now sits at 5-6.

Pierson skirted past Port Jefferson 10-8 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Whalers repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
