Recap: Hillcrest Jaguars vs. Monroe County Tigers
The Hillcrest Jaguars waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-56 win over Monroe County. Given Hillcrest's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Monroe County is ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hillcrest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dorian Watson, who scored 11 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Al'Quan Richardson, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Hillcrest pushed their record up to 24-4 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.5 points per game. As for Monroe County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Hillcrest won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Georgiana at 3:00 p.m. on January 27th. One thing working in Georgiana's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 matchups. As for Monroe County, they will head out on the road to square off against Clarke County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
