Softball Preview: Southwestern Heights Mustangs vs. Holcomb Longhorns

Southwestern Heights is 0-10 against Holcomb since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Southwestern Heights Mustangs have the luxury of staying home for another game and will welcome the Holcomb Longhorns at 4:00 p.m.

Things were looking good for Southwestern Heights after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-6 to Elkhart, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Lacie Banman was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimber Flowers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Holcomb put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Ulysses a 9-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Holcomb, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Korryn Johnson, who gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Ulysses off the board. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts every time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Rian Rodriguez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and a stolen base. Emma Cornelsen was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Southwestern Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Holcomb, their win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0.
