Softball Recap: Woodbridge Takes Down Ranked Ursuline Academy

Woodbridge faced Ursuline Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Woodbridge's pitcher stepped up to hand Ursuline Academy a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Woodbridge, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Makayla Lessner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kalli Chelton and Madison Hare did most of the damage at the plate: Chelton went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Hare went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Hare a new career-high. Jaidyn Culver also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Woodbridge and bumps their season record up to 8-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Ursuline Academy, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodbridge will face off against Lake Forest at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ursuline Academy, they will square off against MOT Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
