Baseball Game Preview: Mifflinburg Wildcats vs. Hughesville Spartans

The Mifflinburg Wildcats will face off against the Hughesville Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mifflinburg will be strutting in after a victory while Hughesville will be coming in after a defeat.

Mifflinburg gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Loyalsock Township by a score of 4-1. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won three in a row.

Kaiden Kmett and Aaron Bolick did most of the damage at the plate: Kmett went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, while Bolick scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI Kmett has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was JP Marr, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Hughesville was a bit more limited in their match on Monday. They fell 5-2 to Southern Columbia Area. Spartans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Tigers since on Monday.

Hughesville also got a good showing from Nathan Bieber, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Mifflinburg's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Hughesville, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mifflinburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hughesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts.
