Football Recap: Barstow Takes a Loss

Barstow came into this matchup off a tough 20-point defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Serrano Diamondbacks by a score of 17-15 on Thursday. The Aztecs lost against the Diamondbacks in their previous head to head back in August of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 35-0 score last time.

Despite the loss, Barstow still got an impressive performance from Jarvis (JJ) Applewhite, who threw for 174 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 73 yards on only eight carries.

Even if they lost, Barstow's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Iosefa Lealofi was especially locked on to Serrano's QB and sacked him twice. Quentin Hunter was another major factor on D, making seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Barstow's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Serrano, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barstow will take on Segerstrom at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Serrano, they will square off against Xavier Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
