Softball Recap: Bellevue West Sets Scoring Season-High Against Benson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bellevue West). Everything went their way against the Benson Bunnies on Thursday as they made off with an 18-0 victory. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Bunnies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Grace Veik was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Veik was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine matchups.

In other batting news, Jaycee Woodard was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Brooklyn Phephles was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Bellevue West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Bellevue West's record is now 6-18. As for Benson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-16.

Bellevue West has already played their next contest, an 11-3 loss against Millard West on the 26th. As for Benson, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lincoln High at 5:00 p.m. The Links have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.29 runs per game on average), something the Bunnies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
