Basketball Recap: Mariner Falls to Palmetto Ridge in First Game of Season

Mariner unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took an 82-67 bruising from the Palmetto Ridge Bears on Thursday. The Tritons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bears from their previous meeting back in January.

Palmetto Ridge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Judah Lopez out in front who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Lopez a new career-high. Ethan Bates was another key player, shooting 54% from the field to rack up 20 points and eight rebounds.

Palmetto Ridge's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Coming up, Mariner will head out to face off against Island Coast on Monday. As for Palmetto Ridge, they will be taking part in a tournament against Blanche Ely at 3:20 p.m. on Friday.
