Softball Recap: Midway Comes Up Short

Lenoir City hit Midway with a six-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Green Wave came up short against the Panthers, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-10 back in March.

Midway saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiersten Ruffner, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was Ruffner's first of the season. Another was Kyker Johnston, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Midway and nudges their season record down to 1-13. As for Lenoir City, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midway will head out to square off against Oakdale at 6:35 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Green Wave's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lenoir City, they are taking a road trip to take on Loudon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
