Baseball Recap: West Carteret Takes Down First Flight in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and West Carteret had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the First Flight Nighthawks by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday.

Landon Quillen tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Josh Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

West Carteret was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as First Flight only posted a batting average of .130.

West Carteret's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for First Flight, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-10.

Coming up, West Carteret will challenge Southern Alamance on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (West Carteret 3.6, Southern Alamance 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. First Flight does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
