Softball Recap: Howland Finds Playoff Glory Versus Highland

With a playoff win on the line, Howland rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Highland Hornets. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Brooke Tatar made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Schmitz, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Mary Moy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Howland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Highland, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.

As of now, neither Howland nor the Hornets have any future games scheduled.
