Sam Hull and Colden Cook secure win for Humboldt

Recap: Humboldt Cubs vs. Erie Red Devils

The Humboldt Cubs entered their tilt with the Erie Red Devils with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Humboldt walked away with a 52-43 win over Erie on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Humboldt, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Humboldt was led to victory by Sam Hull and Colden Cook. Hull scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Cook scored 27 points along with nine rebounds. Cook continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Page, who scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Erie's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Richenburg, who scored 14 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Duff, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.

Humboldt's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Erie, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-3.

Humboldt will head out on the road to square off against Eureka on Tuesday. Eureka is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Erie will take on Cherryvale at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherryvale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Erie is ranked 143rd).
