Recap: East Greenwich Avengers vs. East Providence Townies
The East Greenwich Avengers fell victim to the East Providence Townies''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They suffered a tough 26-0 loss at the hands of the Townies. East Greenwich's defeat kept them winless this season.
Alex DeTomasis threw for 28 yards on nine of 17 attempts. On the ground, Cade Thomas picked up three receiving yards and no touchdowns.
East Providence got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Steven Clark Jr out in front who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Isaac Fox also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
East Greenwich's loss was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-0 Cumberland and 10-2 St. Raphael Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 55.3% over those games). As for East Providence, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4.
East Greenwich will take on St. Raphael Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Providence, they will head out on the road to face off against Burrillville at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Burrillville is ranked 11th, while East Providence is ranked 18th).
