Baseball Recap: Franklin Knights vs. Hickory Hornets
Franklin lost against Hickory back in May of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Franklin Knights fell just short of the Hickory Hornets by a score of 4-3. Franklin has not had much luck with Hickory recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Zach Boland was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Boland was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Boland wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Nightingale, who went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI.
On Hickory's side, Matthew Myers looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Hickory let Joey Cidila and Landon Koerth loose on the outfield. Cidila went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and a double, while Koerth scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Hickory, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Franklin will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cranberry Area at 4:00 p.m. As for Hickory, they will head out on the road to take on Slippery Rock at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
