Softball Recap: Alonso Comes Up Short

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Alonso's offense. They fell just short of the Gaither Cowboys by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Ravens have suffered against the Cowboys since February 10, 2015.

Karina Lozada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Alonso saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Hernandez's first of the season.

Even though they lost, Alonso hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gaither struck out eight times.

Alonso's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Gaither, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-2.

Coming up, Alonso will head out on the road to take on Plant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Plant's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Gaither, they will host Steinbrenner at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gaither is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
