Baseball Recap: Kouts Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Kouts extended their winning streak to seven on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 18-3 in the process. They blew past the North Newton Spartans 13-0. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs & Fillies, who have now won 14 matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Eli Harper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kouts let Reid Estill and Ben Finney run wild. Estill went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double, while Finney went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Cooper Whitaker, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Kouts was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

As for North Newton, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-13. The contest marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On North Newton's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Bijak, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Kouts beat the Spartans by a score of 16-2 later that day.
