Sun Valley had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Mallard Creek Mavericks with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won five in a row.

One reason for the win was Sun Valley's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-13.

Mallard Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Sun Valley will take on East Mecklenburg in a tournament on Friday. As for Mallard Creek, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Myers Park on the 14th.
