Newtown do-everything linebacker Ben Mason commits to Michigan

Highly productive three-year starter commits to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

Ben Mason, a three-star linebacker from Newtown (Conn.) announced Tuesday night he'll be headed to Michigan.

The 6-foot-3, 247-pound junior is ranked the 35th best inside linebacker in the country by 247Sports. A three-year starter, Mason is one of the most productive linebackers on the East Coast with 290 career tackles, including 113 last season.

He's also added 10.5 sacks and five interceptions on defense during his career and as a fullback last season he caught 24 passes for 416 yards and nine touchdowns and he rushed 43 times for 231 yards and five scores.

By picking up Mason, Michigan ranks seventh nationally in recruiting, according to 247 Sports, with 12 hard commits, including five-star quarterback Dylan McCaffrey, from Valor Christian (Colo.).
