Baseball Game Preview: Lindbergh Flyers vs. Mehlville Panthers

The Lindbergh Flyers will head out on the road to take on the Mehlville Panthers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lindbergh comes in on three and Mehlville on four.

On Wednesday, Lindbergh made easy work of Parkway West and carried off an 8-1 win. The Flyers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Jon Calcaterra tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last three matches.

On the hitting side, Luke Seiler was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three runs. That home run was his first of the season. CJ Luczak was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Lindbergh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mehlville narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Clayton 4-3. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.

Mehlville's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Lindbergh, their record now sits at 10-3-1.

Everything went Lindbergh's way against Mehlville in their previous meeting back in March, as Lindbergh made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flyers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
